If a bank loans money to a person they KNOW can’t pay it back only because the bank knows that loan will be?

08 Jun

packaged up with other loser loans and sold off as good loans to other financial institutions, isn’t that FRAUD at the bank level? Shouldn’t they go to jail for that?

If the Senate can’t run a cafeteria, how can they run a country?

14 May

WASHINGTON — The famed bean soup served in Senate restaurants is made up of dried navy beans, smoked ham hocks, onions and a million-dollar tab for the taxpayer.

That menu for financial distress could be about to change as the Senate, following the lead taken by the House more than 20 years ago, moves to privatize the restaurants, coffee shops and cafeterias located in the Capitol and Senate office buildings.

The Senate last week passed a bill authorizing Senate restaurants, now run by the Architect of the Capitol, to go private, ending months of back-and-forth between Democrats appalled by the operation’s money-losing ways and other Democrats worried that restaurant workers would get thrown out like the ham bones.

The measure is expected to win easy approval in the House, where privately run restaurants and food courts run profits and draw good crowds every day of House members and employees, tourists and disaffected Senate staff.

By comparison, wrote Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who as chairman of the Senate Rules Committee has spearheaded the privatization drive, the Senate restaurants last year cost taxpayers $1.3 million with food quality and service that is “noticeably sub par.”

She noted that in budget years 2003 through 2007, Senate restaurants racked up deficits of $4.7 million while the House received commissions from the operator estimated at about $1.2 million.

Losses could top $2 million this year, and the restaurants will need a transfer of $250,000 from the Senate’s emergency funds in July to make payroll, she wrote in a letter to other senators.

A private review commissioned by Feinstein found that the Senate operation had no strategy for improvement other than price increases. She said new menu items “have not been remotely reflective of the rapid change in the food industry whether it be health and nutrition or ethnic foods.”

A small Senate take-out on the first floor of the Capitol offers, with its hot dogs and sandwiches, candy bars, pain medicine and, until recently, cigarettes. The sit-down restaurant that once adjoined it has closed, becoming new staff office space. With that, there is no public dining space inside the Capitol; senators and their guests can still eat in an ornate dining room with a staff dressed in jackets and ties.

But Feinstein’s efforts to change the system ran into obstacles from four Democratic senators: Robert Menendez of New Jersey, Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, Barbara Mikulski of Maryland and Sherrod Brown of Ohio, who questioned whether current workers would face lower wages, reduced benefits and be deprived of union representation.

Feinstein said she was “somewhat dismayed” by the resistance. She stressed that under the proposed contract with Restaurant Associates, the New York-based company that runs the House restaurants and will operate the 550-seat cafeteria in the underground Capitol Visitor Center slated to open this fall, current employees will continue at the same basic rate of pay and receive the same level of health insurance and retirement benefits.

Those not wishing to switch to the new system would be eligible for a voluntary buyout of up to $25,000. She said 47 of the 96 permanent restaurant employees are expected to take the buyout.

The four senators signed off, saying they were pleased that Restaurant Associates was willing to commit in the contract to union neutrality and a reasonable annual cost-of-living adjustment.

Restaurant Associates did not return calls seeking comment, and it was unclear if they were committed to serving bean soup in the new Senate restaurants.

So who is surprised that unemployed people can’t buy GM products?

09 May

Remember when they started installing all of the robots and laid off a lot of real people? Remember when they began closing U.S. factories and building new ones in countries with cheap labor and no unions to protect workers? They were looking for higher profit but they forgot that middle class Americans were their customers, as well as employees. Along with the corrupt banking and insurance agencies, corporate giants are destroying middle-class Americans who are more concerned with trying to save their home ownership than with buying a new car. GREED is ruining this wonderful country!…..Sorry for the rant, but the market news is truly frightening today, and I am mad as hell!

Why can’t this be the solution?

29 Apr

I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in
a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000
bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is ab out 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman
and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a
We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $5 95,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college – it’ll be there
Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car – create jobs
Invest in the market – capital drives growth
Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks
who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company
that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it…instead of trickling out
a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG – liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.

Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work.”

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion
We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC .

And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned
instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh…I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

This is from an email I recieved…I wish I could take credit for this but I can’t…

why can’t the gov’nt think of something like this to bail us out?

The Birk Economic Recovery Plan

This idea sounds just crazy enough to possibly work, so naturally it won’t be given serious consideration. How great is our bureaucracy!!

Updated: How can I stop paying mortgage if i can’t live in the house?

12 Apr

Please watch the new video. Just came out.

http://ny1.com/content/top_stories/106683/squatters-the-latest-challenge-in-waterview-battle/Default.aspx

=================================
I’ll just list the facts. My case is very complicated.
* My house is located in Staten Island, New York
* My house is one of 28 in Home Association (HOA)
* My house is one of 9 that facing the water
* In 2007 Nor’easter hit and retaining wall has collapsed
* 9 families were ordered to evacuate by Department Of Buildings
* Since houses did not have any damage besides their back yards, home insurance did not cover the damages
* Same time FEMA declared Staten Island a disaster zone
* We were suppose to get $1.5M Small Business Administration loan,
but never did because of the fact that other 18 homes refused to take it
* To repair the wall we need to spend millions that we don’t have
* It has been 2 years since it happened and we suffered unimaginable hardship. We had to live in very poor conditions renting or living with relatives and continue paying mortgage
* We went through 5 lawyers spending tens of thousands without any success to get back to our homes
* Last week-end we have discovered that our homes were burglarized and vandalized to add to our misery. Watch this: http://ny1.com/content/top_stories/106498/two-years-later–rosebank-storm-damage-remains/Default.aspx

Now is the question. At this point there is very little hope for us to get back to our houses. We used up all possible legal ways and exhausted financially and emotionally. Personally I’ve put down all my family’s savings for this house and still owe over $300K to the bank. What options do I have to walk away from the property?
THANKS for any help
16 hours ago – 3 days left to answer.
Additional Details
My wife and I are employed. Is there a way to apply for bankruptcy without bank going after our pay checks?

Thanks a lot for all answers.
* Flood insurance was not required because the property is 50 feet above the water level.
* Builder is nowhere to be found. Plus it’s been more than 10 years since construciton.
* We can’t occupy our houses because of various complications that are beyond this post. If you’re interested let me know and I’ll post anohter question

Why can’t the government make you buy health insurance?

09 Apr

They make you buy automobile insurance, wear your seat belts, pay taxes, buy building permits, make you shovel your sidewalks, pay for police and fire protection, pay up keep of parks, make you drive the speed limit or they fine you, make you buy a license plate.
