My parents had a fire in their business last Nov. The building is rented & they had no lease – because the owners of the building did not want one. The rent was so good they chose not to push it. The cause of the fire is “undetermined”. So both insurance companies (parents & building owners) shared the cost of the repairs. Parents covered what was inside & owners covered the building. Now the owners want to sue my parents insurance co. Is that even viable? And will that affect my parents in any way?
2nd: The owners insurance gave them a buyout & told them to do what ever w/ the bldg. So they pocket the cash & hire very cheap labor to rebuild. Since January my parents have been told they will be back in the shop in “2 weeks”. It’s now the begining of April & it’s still in “2 weeks.” It has been 5 months so they obviously are losing their customers. It’s forcing them out of business. Do they have a case against the owners for bascially forcing them out of business or are they SOL?
Lots of leaks in Roof (Will Insurance cover any part of repairs ?)?

I bought this house last year May(2006). Last hurricane season passed without any problems. But this season I have a lot sof leak spots all around the house. The leaks started during the windy rains about 2 months back but I didnt really care a lot hoping I will get it fixed soon. But the last 3 days continues rain has created a huge mess and one of the room had the sheet rock falli down. I cut and removed most of wet sheetrock in the room and there is a hole of about 3′-1′ x 5′-6′ in the room.

I have called couple of local roofing people (from Craigslist) and they are scheduled for tomorrow. I am a newbe for all this house maintanence and repairs.
I would like to know whats the best solution at this point. Just repair the leaks ? or the whole roof needs to be replaced ? Will Insurance cover anything if I have to replace whole roof ? I have insurance from Citizens. The house is built in 1977

I did not get any home warranty. I never knew there was something of this type warranty. I will give a call to Insurance Agent and see what he says. I have couple of local Roof repair persons coming tomorrow to take a look at and give me an estimate.

Part 1 – With the new rate cuts I was wondering if I should remortgage my home loan. I currently have a 30 year fixed rate at 5%. I’ve been paying on the loan since the last quarter of 2003. My points are gone too.
Part 2 – Between being house poor and paying for my own wedding I also have a home equity loan. That is also a fixed rate loan at about 8%. It’s a 10 year loan that I’ve been paying on for a little over 3 years.
If there is an article to link my to I’ll take that also if I will save someone time typing
