While I was out of town, apparently my apartment building, who i lease from, got new roofs put on. I guess the tarps blew off one night and water leaked in. I got back home to find my brand new LCD tv not working properly and look up to see water marks all over my ceiling above the tv and drywall around it. After closer inspection i could see water marks on my tv screen as well as on the frame of the screen and on the dressor it sits on. I called the office to complain numerous times and have asked repeatidly if they have insurance to replace my tv that THEIR roofing company ruined. They are telling me that because i dont have renters insurance, theres nothing that will cover it, and that they nor the roofing company have insurance that would cover such damage…..Is this true?? Anyone have advice???

Health-care reform: Rx for peace of mindE-mail iPod Print ShareThisPublished: Wed, August 5, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m.
By KATHLEEN SEBELIUS
As the political debate about how to pay for and pass health reform grows louder and more contentious, we shouldn’t lose sight of the reason we’re even having this conversation: We have a huge, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve the lives of all Americans, insured and uninsured alike.
Health insurance is fundamentally about peace of mind. If you have good insurance, you don’t have to worry about an accident or sudden illness. You know that whatever happens, you and your family will be taken care of.
We can’t eliminate all disease. But through health reform, we can give every American access to quality, affordable health insurance so that if they do get sick, they have the best chance possible of getting better without bankrupting their families.
The current health-care system gives insurance companies all the power. They get to pick and choose who gets a policy. They can deny coverage because of a pre-existing condition. They can offer coverage only at exorbitant rates — or offer coverage so thin that it’s no coverage at all. Americans are left to worry about whether they’ll get laid off and lose their insurance or wake up from surgery with a $10,000 bill because they didn’t read the fine print on their policy.
By giving Americans choices, health reform will switch the roles. Americans will get peace of mind, and insurance companies will start getting nervous. They will know that if they don’t deliver a great value, their customers will flee. So they will start offering better coverage.
Reform will close the gaps in our current system. When my two sons graduated from college, I had mixed feelings. I was incredibly proud of their accomplishments, but I dreaded the fact that they would lose their health insurance when they left school. The peace of mind that comes with health reform means college graduations can go back to being the celebrations they are supposed to be.
Consider the entrepreneur sitting at her desk, dreaming about her idea for a new business. Right now, many entrepreneurs are paralyzed by our fractured health insurance system. They know that if they leave their job, they might not be able to get insurance for their families. So they, and their innovations, stay put. Health reform means unleashing America’s entrepreneurs to chase their big ideas.
Without reform, we will miss out on these benefits. And our health-care system will still be a fiscal time bomb. Recent estimates indicate that by 2040, health-care costs will eat up 34 percent of our gross domestic product. By comparison, the entire federal budget today is just 20 percent of our GDP. By acting now, we have the chance to slow health-care costs in a way that doesn’t slash benefits or reduce care. Instead, we can make investments in prevention, wellness and health information technology that will allow the health-care system to deliver incredible results at prices we can all afford. Imagine a system in which your doctor spends as much time trying to keep you healthy as treating you when you’re sick, in which you and your doctor have all the information you need to choose the treatments that work best for you, in which you never have to fill out the same paperwork twice. Health reform is the first step in that direction.
Getting it right
President Obama and I are working closely with Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate and health-care experts to make sure we get the details of health reform right. But we can’t let the details distract us from the huge benefits that reform will bring. The urgency behind reform has nothing to do with the schedule of Congress and everything to do with the needs of the American people.
Nor should we let ourselves be distracted by attacks that try to use the complexity of health reform to freeze Americans in inaction. We’ve learned over the past 20 years that “socialized medicine” and “government-run health care” are code words for “don’t change anything.” With some insurers raising premiums by more than 25 percent and 14,000 people losing their health insurance every day, Americans want to hear something more from their leaders than “wait and see” and “more of the same.” People have enough to worry about these days. Americans deserve the peace of mind that only health-care reform can provide.
Thank you SO much!

Could they sue? Please read all details – 2 part question.?
My parents had a fire in their business last Nov. The building is rented & they had no lease – because the owners of the building did not want one. The rent was so good they chose not to push it. The cause of the fire is “undetermined”. So both insurance companies (parents & building owners) shared the cost of the repairs. Parents covered what was inside & owners covered the building. Now the owners want to sue my parents insurance co. Is that even viable? And will that affect my parents in any way?
2nd: The owners insurance gave them a buyout & told them to do what ever w/ the bldg. So they pocket the cash & hire very cheap labor to rebuild. Since January my parents have been told they will be back in the shop in “2 weeks”. It’s now the begining of April & it’s still in “2 weeks.” It has been 5 months so they obviously are losing their customers. It’s forcing them out of business. Do they have a case against the owners for bascially forcing them out of business or are they SOL?
please help there was a fire in my apartment!?
there was a fire in my apartment buliding on the 18th of novemeber. i just got an email tonight from my landlord and she says that since i dont have renters insurance, that i am obligated to do the clean up and i have to pay for the damages the firefighters made while taking care of the fire. can she do that? she also told me that i have to clean the walls with bleach and she would take care of the painting.
if anyone can help please do. i have already lost everything that i owned and if i am obligated to this then i am just not to sure what i am going to do im lucky to be alive only to have to deal with this. i live in chicago if that makes a difference, thank you
also the toaster must of shorted or it had to do with the outlet, either way i was not in the room
there was nothing in my toaster and i was not in the room, i had not used the thing for days, the police report said that it was electrical/accidental. i walked into a fire and there is going to be no investigation since she said she does not want to get her insurance involved. she also took a week to contact me
Please let me know if you buy the insurance when you buy a ticket what does it cover? Thank you.?
This insurance if you have to change your ticket for some reason. Thank you.
Can you please make a summary about Obama’s health plan?
US President Barack Obama has unveiled his plan to overhaul the nation’s health care system by providing cover for 31 million uninsured.
The proposals, which mould aspects from two bills that have passed Congress, have been published on the internet as promised 72 hours before a key ’summit’ with Republican leaders who have sought to block passage and derail Obama’s agenda.
The plan is widely seen as an attempt to transform his top priority health care plan from a political liability into a trump card to outwit Republicans who have built their resurgence on blanket opposition.
Obama aimed to tap into a new supply of political support arising from the recent decision by Anthem Blue Cross of California to raise premiums by as much as 39 per cent from March 1.
His plan on Monday proposes going further than the existing House and Senate bills and giving the federal government new powers to block what is deemed excessive rate increases by health insurance companies.
It grants the federal health and human services secretary the power to review and block such increases and calls for the creation of a new Health Insurance Rate Authority made up of health industry experts.
‘The president’s proposal strengthens this policy by ensuring that, if a rate increase is unreasonable and unjustified, health insurers must lower premiums, provide rebates, or take other actions to make premiums affordable.
‘A new Health Insurance Rate Authority will be created to provide needed oversight at the federal level and help states determine how rate review will be enforced and monitor insurance market behaviour,’ it said.
Obama claimed his reforms would reduce the US budget deficit ‘by $US100 billion ($A111.1 billion) over the next 10 years – and about $US1 trillion ($A1.1 trillion) over the second decade – by cutting government overspending and reining in waste, fraud and abuse.’
Thursday’s live, televised meeting at Blair House, across the street from the White House, could be Obama’s last chance to pass the plan, which has stalled in Congress with painful consequences for his political authority.
The talks may also dictate battle lines for mid-term congressional elections in November and have deep implications for Obama’s slowed presidency.
Obama may gain politically whichever way the meeting turns out, a factor that has some Republicans smelling a trap.
If his foes compromise on radically different versions of health care, the president will likely get the credit, and finally get his signature reform through Congress.
But if they simply block him, Obama can say Republicans thwarted the bipartisanship that voters across party lines tell pollsters they want to see.
Publication of the plan was a significant moment, with Obama finally taking ownership of the health reform legislation, as pundits have criticised him for allowing Democratic lawmakers to dictate the content of his plan.
‘What the president is trying to do with the February 25 meeting is to reframe the issue, to show that he is working across party lines,’ said Steven Smith, a professor at Washington University, St Louis.
Obama threw down the gauntlet to his foes at a town hall meeting on Friday in Las Vegas.
‘The Republicans say they have got a better way of doing it. I want them to put it on the table… Show me what you got.’
Polls show health reform is not the top concern of most Americans in the aftermath of the economic crisis, with unemployment close to 10 per cent.
Republicans gained the power to thwart Obama’s plans indefinitely last month by capturing a Massachusetts Senate seat to break the Democratic Party’s 60-seat filibuster-proof majority.
They are now calling on the White House to shelve a bid to pass the health care legislation through ‘reconciliation’, a process used for budget and deficit bills that requires only 50 votes.

What to do with $85 Billion?
Instead of bailing out AIG,
I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a
“We Deserve It For the BS” Dividend.
To make the math simple,
let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child.
So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000 each
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+
Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage = housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans = what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college = it’ll be there
Save in a bank = create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car = create jobs
Invest in the market = capital drives growth
Pay for your parent’s medical insurance = health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean = or else
Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it…instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( “vote buy” ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.
If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!
As for AIG, liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.
Sure it’s a crazy idea that wil never be.
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!
How do you spell Economic Boom?
I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion
And remember, this plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.
Now doesn’t this sound better than bailing out AIG?
