Ok..i’m having a really big problem!! I hope someone can help me!
I’m married to a Turkish man, so we now are now living in Izmir for a few months with his family. Although we r both usually living in England..but have been going back & forth this past year.
Anyway, I have been to Izmir like a million times, & stayed here for months on end…but have never had to see a doctor while being in Izmir. We lived in Bodrum for the summer last year & had travel insurance & had absolutely no problem using this insurance there!
However i have taken out the same policy as i had when in Bodrum, with an excess waiver, so i don’t need to pay anything when i receive any treatment.
We went to the Dr here in the village where we live (kamlik) on Friday, & were told that i would either have to pay for my treatment & claim it back from my insurance company later..or get my insurance certificate translated into Turkish. I thought that as we live in a small village, and they probably have never had to deal with an English person before, this was the reason for this.
So today we went to the place that we were told to go. They sent us to a building in Konak, who then sent us to another one about 5minutes away, who then sent us back to the 1st building! (Yea i was really annoyed at this point!) BUT THEN!!! When we finally get to speak to the right person from the 1st building we went to, he tells me that he can’t translate my certificate cos they don’t have a “deal” with England! Only with some other countries (Germany was mentioned) So i couldn’t use my insurance in Turkey!!! Unless i paid & claimed it back later!! Gggggrrrr!!!
My husband told them i had no problem using it in Bodrum or anywhere else we had been in Turkey on holiday & he said the Dr’s i had been seen at those times must have a “deal” with England!
It’s a good job that i hadn’t broke my leg or something! I would be hoping around for a week before anyone wanted to help me!
So i need to know if any English person had used their travel insurance while in Izmir & where did you go? (i have a feeling if i go to a large hospital they may see me & my insurance will be fine) Or if anyone knows where i could go???
I’m sorry this has been so long. But i really can’t wait until the end of March when i’ll be back in the UK to see a Dr & if i pay & claim back it’s SO expensive!!!! This country is so annoying!! Lol

well i’m sorryyy if you found my post annoying! It’s just so fustrating when i need to see a Dr & i’m gettin past from pillar to post!!! I do find this country highly annoying tho! Compared to what i’m used to in England!

Ow & i lived here on & off for 4years. But this is the first time i’ve spent more than a month at a time during winter.
